TaDa! We’ve Got Soap!

African black soap (liquid)

In my last blog, I told you about my liquid soap project using African black soap. Since then, I’ve taken the first few bottles home to test. How’d it turn out? Well, let’s just say, my back deserves a pat. It works fabulously.

I added a few drops of spearmint essential into my own bottle of it. Not enough to overwhelm the natural scent of the black soap—which I thoroughly love—but just enough that if I do a long drag over the bottle or my sudsied hands, I can catch a whiff. My daughter is testing her own bottle, which contains a minute amount of grapefruit essential oil.

I also added honey. I am so happy I added the honey. I’ve compared the plain black soap to my version with honey, and my hands feel much more moisturized  and softer using the one that contains honey. SOOOO, honey may be a permanent fixture in most formulations. Of course, for our vegan peeps, I’ll keep that good ol’ plain black soap at the ready.

All in all, I am truly satisfied with how our project turned out. We’re still hung up on the scent thing, because although we love what essential oils bring to the table, we’re not sure what you all think about that. You can help us with that decision by leaving a comment down below.

Oh, and before I forget, here’s an impromptu video of me talking about the making of the black soap. While I don’t take you step-by-step through the process, I plan to do that with a future video.

Hey Nandi! I’m not a big black soap fan for reason 1) it dried my skin, and 2) it made me itch. I trust you and the way you do how you do , so if you need a tester I’m down!

I am sooooo happy to hear that. I had the same complaints about black soap, most especially the bar. The drying is what leads to the itching, unless the itch was part of being sensitive to any ingredient in the soap itself, but it well could have been the drying = itching effect. That’s why I decided to add the honey element. It appears to have made a difference. I’ll add you to my testing list, so you can tell me how it works for you. ;-)
